As an educator and a published author who has worked with NYC to train students on how to be college and career ready, I know how important it is to have help when getting ready for college. As a cancer survivor, I cannot imagine how much harder it is for young adult and pediatric cancer survivors and thrivers (and previvors) to get ready for this step into education - this FREE course is the first step in helping them move forward - find out more in the link above or click on the photo to register for the course. Please share! & special thanks to the one who inspired me to move forward on this - you know who you are!
We are so pleased to announce that an article by Lisa Vento Nielsen has been published in the Winter 2019 issue of Cancer Health Magazine. You can read the article here.
Lisa also blogs about her breast cancer experience, being a wife, mom, small business owner, nonprofit founder and more at supermombc.com and Cancer Health serializes her blog posts. When they learned about her nonprofit work, they requested an article for the print edition of their magazine, which is also posted online here.
The work we do at Balance After Cancer Foundation of course goes beyond "work readiness" but it is a component of expertise for our founder as she created a small business called The Next Step which is based on college and career readiness with expertise of over 20 years with helping people take, well, the next step.
Work is a necessity for those of us who CAN work - we need the health insurance, the normalcy of the 9 to 5 and the companionship of others. What we also need though is compassion and passion. Compassion by others who work with us and help us along the way when we are struggling instead of laying us off or firing us or making our lives at work tougher. We also need passion - the fire that is in our belly to enjoy our life, to be ready every day for something that brings us peace and happiness. These things can go together and they should but if they cannot, this is where the other programs and trainings that are launching soon will come into play - about relationship building, friendship formations, running a small business and more.
